Jessica Ordóñez is a mexican dancer, dance facilitator, and cultural events organizer. Throughout her career, she has explored various dance styles, including contemporary dance, butoh, salsa, and bachata. She currently specializes in Dancehall and is the creator of the Waistline Magic project, which focuses on promoting the cultural expressions and nonverbal sources of knowledge found in the heritage of the African diaspora in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Waistline Magic serves as a platform for researching the cultural and artistic expressions of the African diaspora in Latin America and the Caribbean. One of the platform’s goals is to build bridges between people who have experienced invisibility, marginalization, and structural discrimination, in order to consciously identify and utilize various tools of resistance that can bring changes and improvements in the different communities. The project also seeks to create spaces dedicated to the body and, specifically, to the exploration of pelvic movement.
